UNIT 2: TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS
Design Process (In order):
- Challenge describes the problem or situation.
- Background past solutions and consequences of the problem.
- Details the characteristics of the final product.
- Solutions brainstorming ideas.
- Best Solution choose a best solution based upon Function, Aesthetics, Strength, Durability, Reliability, Dimensions, Weight, Materials, Assembly, and Adaptability
- Plan It self explanatory
- Make It self explanatory
- Test It self explanatory
UNIT 3: DRAWINGS
Orthographic Drawing: 2D scaled view of what an object would look like from the front, side, and top.
Preliminary Sketches: The starting point of designs, meant to be rough and quick.
Presentation Drawings: Drawings that represent the finished product.
Technical Drawings: Precise, accurate, and detailed drawings that show information.
Oblique Drawings: A 3D method of drawing objects where the height and length are drawn perpendicular to the horizon and the width is 45 degrees from the horizon.
UNIT 4: SAFETY (BASIC RULES OF THE SHOP)
- all PPE must be worn at all times while in the shop
- no horseplay
- proper attire must be worn at all times
- check machines for flaws
- ensure a clean workspace
- do not use equipment without a supervisor’s permission
UNIT 5: MEASUREMENTS
Scale: The ratio of the size of the drawing to the actual object.
EXAMPLE: 1:2 = half ~ 1:3 = a third ~ 2:1 = double
UNIT 6: SOFTWARE
Photoshop: uses layers to modify existing pictures.
Flash: allows the user to use flash animation to create movies.
UNIT 7: PROPULSION
Drag: Friction between a gas and an object moving through it.
Aerodynamics: The interaction of air and objects moving through it.
